The Advanced Regional Prediction System
The Advanced Regional Prediction (ARPS) is a comprehensive regional
to stormscale atmospheric modeling / prediction system. It is a complete
system that includes a realtime data
analysis and assimilation system, the forward prediction model and a post-analysis package.
The ARPS was initially developed at the Center for Analysis
and Prediction of Storms (CAPS) at the University of Oklahoma, under the support of the
National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center (STC) program.
CAPS will continue to improve and support the use of ARPS.
The original goal of ARPS was for it to serve as a prototype system
for storm scale numerical weather prediction.
Developing such a system was also the primary mission
of CAPS. ARPS is also suitable for a wide range of
idealized studies.
ARPS Version 4.0
was officially released to the public in 1995. Since then, significant improvements have been added and
subsequent subversions released. ARPS Version 4.5.2 is our last Fortran 77 version. Starting from ARPS
version 5, Fortran 90 free format, dynamic array allocations as well as other features are used. This
version has been used internally for over years, and the latest version of it is available from the download
